Dear Friends,
I hope everyone is having a peaceful and refreshing summer and is ready and raring to go for the new Connexional year. In fact, even though summer is nearly over, I hope you continue to enjoy peace and refreshment even if the to-do list is longer than you would like.
When Jesus promised His disciples peace in John 14, He wasn’t offering a spa retreat or a vague, reassuring platitude. He was offering the sure and certain knowledge that they would know themselves to be held in God’s love and carried along by His Spirit and His grace whatever storms and disturbances life threw into their path.
In other words, He wasn’t offering them freedom from life’s messier moments, but a source of strength and hope which would never leave them, no matter what.
Jesus offers the same to us. It seems to be true that those who carry the peace of Christ in their hearts are the ones who (to quote Kipling) keep their heads when everyone else is losing theirs. They are the ‘fragrance of Christ’ (Corinthians 2:15) in a world which all too often, frankly, stinks. The wonderful thing is that our lives don’t have to be perfect before we can know this peace. It comes a pure gift to those with open hearts and empty hands.
Every blessing as you serve the Lord, know His peace and share His love in this wonderful part of God’s vineyard we call the Anchor Circuit!
